What Documents Can Be Remotely Notarized (RON) for Use in India?
India is not a Hague Apostille Convention member, which means document requirements are more strict — especially around notarization.
While Remote Online Notarization (RON) is legally valid in Texas, India does not universally accept RON for all document types.
Documents Often Accepted with RON for India
These are typically private, non-government documents:
Affidavits
Powers of Attorney (POA) (case-by-case)
Authorization letters
Business declarations
Some corporate resolutions
⚠️ Acceptance depends on:
The Indian authority receiving the document
Whether consular legalization is required after apostille
Documents Commonly NOT Accepted with RON for India
India often requires wet-ink notarization for:
Property-related POAs
Bank documents
Immigration filings
Court-related documents
When in doubt, in-person notarization is safer.
Government Records
The following cannot be notarized at all:
Birth certificates
Marriage certificates
Death certificates
These must be certified copies issued by the appropriate authority before apostille or legalization.
Final Tip for India
India is one of the most document-sensitive countries. Always confirm acceptance before using RON. When clients are unsure, we default to the method most likely to be accepted to avoid rejection.
